Chartered as a private company in 1912, the Pacific Great Eastern Railway lasted until 1972, when it was renamed British Columbia Railway. As usual, it takes a while to get all a railroad’s locomotives repainted, and thus in 1973 there were still some PGE diesels on the new BCOL, such as PGE RS-18 617, working in the railway’s North Vancouver Yard. At a later date, RS-18 617 would be wrecked and retired.
