On a rainy New Year's Eve afternoon, my wife and I hit the train station for a few minutes on the way home from visiting with one of our grandsons. And, within just a few minutes, I caught two trains! (I wish I was that lucky all the time…)
The rain allowed me to not worry about shadows, and so as Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 577 departed the station, I was able to grab a shot that doesn't always work on a brightly lit day – shooting the "shady side" of the train and also getting the nearly 100-year-old station in the same shot as this Surfliner, normally numbered 777 but, on this holiday, truncated to just San Diego to Los Angeles (too bad for those needing to get to San Luis Obispo, I suppose) and thus the 500-series train number, and final stop, for the day.
CDTX (aka "Amtrak California") Siemens AG-built SC-44 "Charger" 2122 is shoving this six-car train.
Not a bad way to wrap up the year, as this is my last photo from 2025. Perhaps I can sneak out a bit tomorrow and get my first photo for 2026. Why not? I despise football anyway, and there isn't much else to do that day… (Maybe there will even be some lightning!!!)
