Remarks & Notes
Originally built in December 1971 as an EMD GP40 for the Chesapeake & Ohio Railway, No. 413 later operated for Virginia Railway Express (VRE), where it was modified for commuter service. VRE added head-end power (HEP) to the unit, which flared the radiator section and gave it a distinctive silhouette. Red marker lights replaced the traditional classification lamps during its passenger career.
