Fortunately, Amtrak GP38 723, getting some TLC in the carrier's Wilmington Maintenance Facility, has retained its builder's plate for the last 52½ years, providing easy access to its heritage. Built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division as Louisville & Nashville GP38 4003 in June 1970, this Geep later became Seaboard System 6224, and following yet another merger, CSX Transportation 2133.
