Remarks & Notes
Amtrak train 14, the northbound ("westbound" on the Southern Pacific’s Los Angeles Division) makes it stop in San Luis Obispo as it makes its way from Los Angeles to Seattle. A pair of recently-delivered SDP40F diesels lead this 13-car (at least) train: AMTK 555 (nearly 3 months old) and 582 (almost two months old). (San Luis Obispo, California – July 1, 1974)

Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
