Ayer-East Deerfield ED9 has just gotten underway on its journey on the former Boston & Maine line across northern Massachusetts. Ayer is today a major focal point of Pan Am Railways, and will continue to be so when CSX takes over on June 1 of this year, though things will change. The route this train is taking from here to East Deerfield is slated to be operated by new Genesee & Wyoming entity Berkshire & Eastern.
