Now that the power that brought Union Pacific local LOA32 to Santa Ana has cut off and run around the 9-car train, the more interesting locomotive is now on the point. UP GP40P-2 1375 is now leading, although in a backing move it is actually trailing, but will lead when the train heads back to Anaheim. The other engine is UP GP60 1083 (ex- ex-UP 1953, née-SSW 9651), which has been working locals out of Anaheim for at least eleven months, whereas the rare GP40P-2 (one of only three built!) arrived on or about November 12. Forty-seven-year-old UP 1375 is the former Southern Pacific 7602, originally SP 3199, built for the SP’s commute operation between San Francisco and San Jose, and after the steam generator was removed, it became "just another" GP40-2. I hope it sticks around for a long time, as 1083 has! (Santa Ana, California – November 17, 2021)
