Remarks & Notes
Battery installation short-line style... Park locomotive on a flat stretch of spur with little built-up roadbed, then grab a rubber-tired tractor with a front-end loader. The Southern Alabama (SUAB) was one of several shortlines in the Deep South owned by Richard Abernathy of Shelbyville, TN. Another was the Columbia and Silver Creek in southern Mississippi. GP18 9424 was delivered to IC in July 1963 wearing basic black. The loco made it through the ICG era before being sold at some later date to Abernathy, who first assigned it to C&SC before transferring it to SUAB. Last I knew, SUAB was G&O property being operated as Conecuh Valley Railroad. I believe the C&SC line is gone.
