As Union Pacific train UP F-ILBDV01-04I, with UP ES44AC 7760 as the rear Distributed Power Unit (DPU), grinds up Cajon Pass, BNSF Railway train Q-NWHLAC6-30 pops out from behind it on another mainline. The BNSF train, an 11,142-foot long intermodal train with 120 loads, is running 37 hours 13 minutes behind schedule. BNSF ES44AC 5750 and British Columbia Railway Dash 9-44CW 4653 are leading this intermodal train, which originated in Ohio’s North Baltimore, with BNSF ES44C4 6632 and BNSF ES44AC 6075 (one of the BNSF’s 25th Anniversary engines) on the rear, operating in DPU mode. Oddly, once this train arrives in Los Angeles later this day, the entire train – power and cars – will sit in the railway’s Hobart Yard for over 24 hours, awaiting an empty track under the Mi-Jack container cranes. This meet occurred at the base of Cajon Pass, at the station named Verdemont, located in the city of San Bernardino, on February 5, 2021.
