On my way to a work related service call in upper Ellsworth, Maine, I came upon the crossing of Nicolin Road and the former MEC Calais Branch during the morning of December 4, 2020. A sign had been placed nearby warning of water over the road, and they weren't kidding. While South of the crossing appeared fine, North was another story! Flood waters from Boggy Brook had packed a bunch of debris in the nearby culvert, causing a huge backup that inundated the ROW for a good distance. The siding track diving into the water to the left drops below the mainline a bit and was under water all the way to the crossing I was sitting at. Beyond that, the mainline also disappears into the pool. While I've seen washouts and backups along this line before, I had never seen it this bad here. It gives an idea of what tourist lines have to face every day. Downeast Scenic's end of track is a few miles South of this location in Ellsworth Falls, but they hope to eventually run through here up to Green Lake in the future.
