This is at or near "Metz", a few miles south of Soledad, CA in the Salinas Valley, just off of old US-101. Amtrak 11 (the Coast Starlight) has just blasted out of a strangely out-of-place tunnel on its way south.
Running daily between Seattle and Los Angeles, this train offers running alongside the Pacific Ocean and through the Cascade Mountains. It has been one of Amtrak's long-distance success stories.
