Columbia River Belt Line Railway #7 "Skookum". Here's a close-up, low-angle view of "Skookum" as she brings her newly turned log train onto the wye in the Niles Yard. Note the very unique 2-4-4-2 configuration of this locomotive. Like Clover Valley #4, she's a compound articulated, meaning that her rear engine receives steam first, and the steam is then re-used in the forward engine. Like #4, the boiler is fixed on the rear engine and pivots about the front one. Unlike #4, "Skookum" carries both her water and oil supply in a conventional tender. For most of the last half of the 20th century, this engine was nothing but a pile of rusty parts. Needless to say, the restoration crew at the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad did one heck of a job with this engine. She's really pretty.
