Southbound to Carson City. Looking a lot like she did back in the day, Virginia & Truckee Locomotive #22 "Inyo" takes a short passenger train southbound on the trackage of the Nevada State Railroad Museum in the morning sun. Inyo and 4 of her stablemates were 4-4-0 "American Standard" Locomotives, which were purchased by the railroad back in the 1870s, specifically to provide passenger services from Reno south to Carson City and then on up the hill to the mining town of Virginia City. Most of the historic photos of this engine look a lot like this one, featuring passenger equipment, not freight.
Incidentally, you're not likely to find a more authentic-looking Victorian-era passenger train anywhere in the US than the one you see here. First and foremost, Inyo is about the last original, standard-gauge, wood-burning 4-4-0 in America that can still run under her own power. Paired with some of the sweetly-restored V&T rolling stock at the NSRM, such as Coach 4 seen here, this train is literally one of a kind.
