Found in the Jackson, Tennessee’s Iselin Yard is Illinois Central Gulf SW14 1497. Built by EMD in July 1951 as Illinois Central SW9 9459, this end-cab switcher was renumbered ICG 459 following the IC’s merger with the Gulf Mobile & Ohio. This engine even received a new paint job, in this dark gray and orange, before being rebuilt by the ICG’s Paducah (Kentucky) Shops in 1981. It emerged from Paducah as an SW14, having been rebuild internally and receiving a new flat-roof cab, it was one of 112 EMD end-cab switchers (of various models) rebuilt by the ICG between 1978 and 1982.
