The "Mega-train". With just about every roadable freight and passenger car from the combined collections of the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company & Museum, and the WW&F Museum, B&SR Locomotive #7 and WW&F Locomotive #9 double-head the longest train of any kind to ever run at the 30 year-old WW&F Museum during the January, 2020 Grand Reunion event. Although most of Maine's 2-foot railroads didn't typically run long or double-headed trains, it did happen on occasion and there are historic photos depicting some of these rare operations. Although built with mixed railroad power and rolling stock, the 13-car train depicted here at Alna Center on the WW&F main line was intended to represent such operations. Not only was this train impressive to listen to and watch, but apparently it was also a real hoot for the crews, who are more used to trains of less than half that length. Note the two Brakemen riding the flats just in front of the tank car. These two young gentlemen were manning the hand brakes, as none of the cars on this train had air or vacuum brakes. Although both locomotives had brakes, the rest of the train was controlled by a large team of brakemen, each of whom was responsible for a particular car.
