A Galesburg, IL, to Northtown Yard in Minneapolis, MN, freight train rolls along the humid and foggy Mississippi River this mid-morning. The train has just passed Lock and Dam #9 couple miles south of Lynxville and crosses Leitner Creek. Alot of the back waters were mucky and full of algae along the Mississippi River this trip. Algae forms when high amounts of nutrient mixed with high temperatures, ample sunlight, and slow-moving water, you get the perfect recipe for a harmful algal bloom. Swimmers beware!
