Remarks & Notes
0-4-2 saddle tank steamlocomotives # 3 "SIR HAYDN" and # 4 "EDWARD THOMAS" are leaving Rhydyronen station with a mixed train on the 2 ft 3 in (686 mm) gauge Talyllyn Railway in Tywyn Wharf station. The railway opened with two locomotives, one carriage and several goods vehicles in use and was operated under a "one engine in steam" policy to ensure that two trains could not collide. Locomotive # 3 was built in 1878 by Hughes’ Loco & Tramway Eng. Works Ltd of Loughborough for the Corris Railway and came to the Talyllyn in 1951. # 4 was built in 1921 by Kerr, Stuart & Co. Ltd. for use on the Corris Railway, and was purchased by the Talyllyn in 1951 and named after the TR’s former manager.
