A Burlington Northern Santa Fe manifest freight descends out of Tunnel 1 on the horseshoe curve spanning the mouth of Coal Creek Canyon on October 24, 1999. BNSF GE C44-9W No. 979 leads three BN EMD SD40-2s on the eastbound train running over Union Pacific’s former Rio Grande main line.
