Norfolk Southern mine run U44 is backing across Front Street in downtown Coeburn, Virginia. The empty train originated in Norton, Virginia and is making a reverse move off of the Clinch Valley mainline onto the Big Toms Creek Branch where it will be flood loaded. Although it is typical of an empty coal train out of Norton to have a caboose as a shoving platform for reverse movements on the Big Toms Creek Branch, it is unknown to the photographer as to why two cabooses were used on this day.
