Remarks & Notes
Top Ten of 2018. Here's a look back at my Top 10 favorite shots from 2018.
3. Southern Railway 2-8-2 4501 (built in 1911) and 2-8-0 630 (built in 1904) doublehead a photo charter freight out of the western portal of the 160-year-old Missionary Ridge Tunnel.
Officially known as the Whiteside Tunnel when it was built by the East Tennessee and Georgia Railroad in 1858, it eventually became a part of the Southern Railway system until the small, single-track bore was bypassed by a new line that ran around the north end of Missionary Ridge and down into Chattanooga.
It was always a goal of mine to get a good shot of a train exiting the portal of the tunnel, and the multiple runbys we did here during the Lerro Productions' charter in March gave me plenty of opportunities, with this afternoon runby being my favorite.
