Remarks & Notes
On May 7th, 2019, Amtrak issued a new directive that private cars must close their classic "dutch doors" while in motion. While a seemingly minor change, riding in the dutch door has been a classic part of railroading ever since vestibuled passenger cars came into common use. I had the chance to ride the vestibule of PV Cimarron River, a 1948 Pullman Standard car originally built for Frisco's Meteor. While somewhat short, the experience was unforgettable and, with the new regulations, impossible to repeat. I'm thankful I had the chance to experience it before the end.
