Three “elephant-style” GE P42DCs power Amtrak’s eastbound California Zephyr into the horseshoe curve at Coal Creek Canyon just downgrade of Plainview, Colorado, on the afternoon of June 24, 1998. The city of Denver is in the center background and is 24 track-miles distant.
