Arctic cold air following a weekend New England snow storm caused significant delays for the normally nocturnal New England Central Railroad freight train 324-21 from St. Albans, Vermont to Palmer, Massachusetts. Led by NECR SD40M-2s 3474 and 3476, SD40-2 3320, and GP40-2L 3040, the hefty southbound freight is crossing from Windsor, Vermont into Cornish, New Hampshire, as the air temperature had warmed to -14 degrees by 0900 hrs on January 22. Snow falls from the bridge as the remaining open water sends steam upward from the bitter cold air.
