The changes to the Lehigh Valley were swift after C-Day, April 1st, 1976, especially when it came to Alcos. The C420s were immediately sent to the D&H, and the C628s were reassigned to Mingo Junction, Ohio soon thereafter. One bright spot for Alco fans in New Jersey was the former CNJ Elizabethport Yard, where Conrail concentrated not only the former CNJ RS3s, but also RS2s and RS3s from some of the other roads. It didn't take long for me and my father to head over there and experience the beehive of activity typical at that time. We got invited up into the cab of former CNJ RS3 #1563 (originally Reading 475 - note the drip strips) and enjoyed a long cab ride.
