Sadly, one of the most spectacular railroads worldwide was destroyed by heavy floods in march 2015, the 1 meter gauge line from Chañaral via Diego de Almagro-Llanta up to Potrerillos. When you look on Google Earth nowadays, only few remains of the right of way are visible. In may 2012, sixaxle EMD G22CU # of Ferronor (built in 1971 for Codelco) is pulling a train with empty sulphuric acid tank cars through the spectacular part in the steep valley slope towards Potrerillos, visible on the right in the background.
