Rolling through the Carpinteria Bluffs Nature Preserve, UP 7823 leads the southbound oil cans on a daylight run along the coast. Despite one of the three units not working properly, the crew has been allowed to run in front of Amtrak's 778 and 782 and has forced the Coast Starlight into the siding at Seacliff to wait for its passage.
