Remarks & Notes |
It's a beautiful day in the town of Fillmore as the loud barks of a Fillmore & Western No. 14 reverberate off the hillsides on both sides of the valley. Working its five car train eastbound through a private crossing after crossing Highway 126, No. 14 begins to put some smoke on the stack as it works upgrade toward Piru. This one eastbound run in the day came following the need for the railroad's sole tank car to be refilled with water on the western side of the railroad. In order to keep the line clear for the extra tank car move, the train crew on the steam train thought it best to run east to provide them the most amount of time to fill the car and return to Fillmore. As luck would have it (for those of us trackside this afternoon), the filling of the tank car would take so long the extra move would be forced to follow the steam train back to Fillmore during its 4:00 p.m. westbound run. |
