Armed with information from one of the crew members, that the 5399 would be working on this beautiful summer day, I made a 4 hour trip to Lebanon, Oregon. A great day was spent following the train around the suburbs of Lebanon. Down toward Sweet Home, up to Crabtree to switch the log yard, and then back Lebanon for some work around town. This locomotive is as old as I am and it was pretty cool to watch it work.
Owned by Albany & Eastern, formerly owned and restored by George Lavacot. Before George did his magice, it was SP 4364 in Scarlet and Grey, and originally SP 5399 in Black widow. Rebuilt by SP in the 1970's as an SD9E. Restoration includes non proto silver trucks, a 5 chime air horn (original was a P3) and the rear number boards were re-installed.
