Remarks & Notes |
I spotted this classic Rio Grande covered hopper on a Union Pacific North Platte to Roper manifest freight in Salt Lake City on July 19, 2016. The D&RGW 15516 is a center flow design from an order for 100 cars built by American Car and Foundry for the Rio Grande in March 1973. It was built with a capacity to haul 97.5 tons and 5250 cubic feet of grain. The first 25 cars of the series were equipped with gravity-pneumatic outlets. Still wearing its factory applied coat of 'Action Orange' paint, how it managed to survive 43 years without any graffiti is anyone's guess. |
