Exuding as much brute force and strength as any steam locomotive ever has, Chesapeake & Ohio 4-8-4 614 walks the Chessie Safety Express up the B&O’s Sand Patch grade. As the train negotiated the reverse curve approaching Mance, Pennsylvania from the east, the deafening thunder was wonderful.
