Due to a boiler tube failure on the 844 that lead to precautionary measures on the 3985, Union Pacific SD9043MAC No. 8070 was assigned to assist a short steam special through Echo Canyon, returning from Railfair in Sacramento to the steam shop in Cheyenne on July 3, 1999.
