Stephenson Railway museum probably has the least scenic stretch of line in the whole of the UK. Built around a test line for the Tyne and Wear Metro system in the 1970's it features a straight length of track about 2 miles long passing through wasteland and industrial estates. It does regularly bring out its steam locomotives and on Easter Monday Ashington Colliery No 5 was in charge. Unusually this locomotive has a second name, Jackie Milburn, a long time hero of Newcastle United FC,
Boy could they do with him now. Black and white seems to suit this line the best, the steam also helped, obliterating the grafitti on the bridge.
