Southern local crew works around Opelika. An important segment of the business then was wood/wood products, as evidenced by the many bulkhead flats in the photo. At the right edge can be seen cotton bales on the platform by the WP/GA boxcars, evidence of another type of traffic soon to leave the rails.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
