On Monday, I decided to spend this afternoon down on the Transcon, so I ran down to Emporia to see what I could come up with. Sure enough, the NS 8099 came rolling through with this westbound grain train (G PHPLDH9 16A), so with time to kill, I decided to give chase. Chasing the Southern heritage unit through Kansas' Flint Hills is one heck of a way to spend a day off!
Here, we're at the K-177 underpass south of Matfield Green, KS. I sure would love for that tree to meet an unfortunate demise, but I'll still happily continue to shoot this signature scene along the line.
