My favorite second generation diesel locomotive is the EMD GP30. The semi-streamlined exterior design was created by the GM Automotive Styling Center at Troy, Michigan. A grand total of 948 of these 2250 HP units were built for 30 North American railroad companies between July 1961 and November 1963. I was more than happy to catch five of Rio Grande's 28 original GP30s leading the Provo Local through American Fork, Utah on August 2, 1989.
