Remarks & Notes |
80 centimeter gauge track of the Pilatusbahn with the Locher cogwheel system, going through the rock face of the Esel (donkey) mountain in a grade of up to 48.0 %, seen from the rear cab of a slowly (9 km p.h.) down riding railcar. The track dates from the construction era of the mountain railway, which was inaugurated in 1889 and is so celebrating 125 years of service now. The rails and the rack rail are fixed with anchors in the stony road bed, there are no conventional sleepers. |
