Fill 'er up! In this unusual view from the top of the locomotive's oil tank, Sumpter Valley Engineer Eric Wunz fills the tender cistern on the railroad's 1920 Alco Mikado #19, as his train sits in the McEwen Yard. The wooden tankhouse seen here is not original to this location, but was obtained from the old Oregon Lumber Company line and moved here in the mid-1970s. The tankhouse originally contained a redwood tank, which was no longer in serviceable condition when it arrived in McEwen. The Sumpter Valley folks replaced the original tank with a metal tank, and as can be seen here, the set-up not only looks authentic, it is fully functional.
