Incorporated in 1889, the Louisiana and North West Railroad operated 62.6-miles of railroad in Arkansas and Louisiana from McNeil, Arkansas, to Gibsland, Louisiana. LNW FP7 49 was acquired in 1976 form the Wellsville Addison & Galeton, who acquired it from GE, to whom it was traded by the Western Pacific. This engine, built in 1950, was originally WP 805A, which saw service on the head-end of the famed California Zephyr between Salt Lake City, UT, and Oakland, CA. This engine would eventually find it's way back to California, where it became part of the collection at the Portola Railroad Museum, which has restored to WP colors and its original number - 805A.
