Soo never bought a new SD45 although the EMD demo units worked on the Soo for a couple weeks when EMD was barnstorming them across country when they first came out. Oddly enough the Soo purchased three Ex SLSF/BN SD45's in 1988 reportedly for parts. Apparently due to being power short after the MILW purchase it was determined that a couple of these units were in good enough shape to be put back into service. They tended to stay fairly close to the Twin Cities most of the time and in one of my frequent visits to Shoreham I came across 6491 sitting with GP7 375 on one of the radial tracks at Shoreham roundhouse. After a few years of service the two SD45's were retired in 1992 and sold to Chrome Crankshaft.
