Steam Inc excursion Taumarunui to Ohakune and back allowed for rare photography in the spectacular section between National Park and Ohakune where the Trunk skirts the flanks of Mt. Ruapehu. There are several viaducts including Makatote, the highest at 78m (258 ft.) The train continued north to the Tauranga Jazz Festival.
