The U23B was GE's big success story on Southern, with 70 of the model being purchased, followed by 54 B23-7s. Those numbers look slim compared to the hundreds of GP38/AC/-2s on the road, but it was a big improvement from the handful of C-C GEs that Southern tried and found wanting.
