Remarks & Notes
Amtrak #5 is pictured here climbing the 1% grade of Cedar Hill in eastern Utah. Location is Union Pacific’s Green River sub between Green River and Helper, Utah. Today’s train was on time to the minute and had been visible for several minutes as it passed Grassy siding and scooted across the shale flats below Cedar Hill. The background is dominated by the Book Cliffs and the higher, tree covered Roan Cliffs. The Book Cliffs are the longest continuous escarpment in the world, stretching 200 miles from Palisade, Colorado to Helper, Utah.
