A manifest freight eases down Christiansburg Grade on hot and hazy August afternoon. The EMD SD40, SD-40-2 and SD45 heading the train represent the N&W's heavy haulers during the last decade of the road's existence. Batches of GE C30-7s and C-36-7s began arriving on the property leading up NS merger. The train has just crossed under I-81 and is about to enter Montgomery Tunnel.
