Remarks & Notes
The World's first ever streamlined bullet train!
Not just some odd looking trolly that once ran at SEPTA, but rather, the Philadelphia and Western Railroad's attempt in the early 1930's to compete and better it's rivals, the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Reading Company in transporting commuters in and around Philadelphia and it's suburbs. Designed in 1931, this trolley tested at speeds over 100 mph and often ran between 80 and 85 mph. Pretty amazing! Just imagine what the world would be like in 2008, the date this image was captured at the Trolley Museum adjacent to Steamtown.
