| It often seemed if you took a girlfriend along with you on trips to the LS&I you could get some terrific smoke shows...maybe those guys had been riding around in the woods a little to long with nothing to break the monotony. This shot has 2400,2405 and 2401 clawing up the steep grade from Eagle Mills to Negaunee with 15 cars on the 3 Yard job. Not long after this photo the LS&I abandoned this trackage in favor of running on the parallel Soo Line track just to the right in the photo. Soo Line trains were few and far between on the line I was standing close to, but a railroad employee buddy and the two lady friends with us were watching my back for an opposing movement while I shot this photo. We were at the far end of the curve and visibility behind us was clear for well over a mile. |
