Looks like it was a snowy trip across the Dakota's and Minnesota for this train, back in 1996 you could still drive into facilities like Midwest Energy in Superior and and take pictures of trains and ships. Midwest Energy at the time was trans-loading about 15-16 million tons of coal per year, they peaked several years later in the mid 20's and are now back down in 15-16 million tons per year range. The coal comes in mostly on the BNSF with an occasional train from the UP. Ships like the McCarthy can typically haul around 65,000 tons per trip. |
