An eclectic mix of rolling stock. Having just topped her wood and water supplies, Sumpter Valley's fall photo mixed train pulls away from the water tank in the McEwen Yard and toward the passenger depot just 30 yards or so ahead. The train is about to load up and depart toward Sumpter, on its second photo run of the day...the first having begun before sunrise. Scattered along the sidings at McEwen are a number of pieces of narrow gauge rolling stock that have made their way to the SVRy by way of other lines all over North America. Enthusiasts from the east coast might recognize a familiar logo on the hopper just to the right of the locomotive in this photo. Yes, that hopper is one of several on the property which served the East Broad Top Railroad in Pennsylvania. All of the SVRy's EBT hoppers later saw service on the White Pass & Yukon Route, before making their way to their current home in Eastern Oregon.
