Remarks & Notes
The Suwanee Steam Special ran from Jacksonville, Fl to Valdosta, Ga, a distance of about 115 miles each way. Savannah & Atlanta 4-6-2 750 powered the trip, assisted by several Southern Railway F units. Savannah & Atlanta 4-6-2 750 was built by Alco-Schenectady in 1907 for the Florida East Coast Railway as their No 80. In 1935 she was sold to the Savannah & Atlanta Railroad. She has 68" drivers, 20 x 26 inch cylinders, operates at 200 psi boiler pressure, and can exert up to 26,000 lbs of tractive effort. She is shown here at Southern Railway's Simpson Yard in Jacksonville on the morning of the excursion.
