Remarks & Notes
Paw Paw, WV 10/5/12 - Photography is about capturing light and its interaction with the subject that interests us. That is what captivates me about night photography, where the presence and absence of light work together to tell a story--this night of the stillness of the Kesslers Bridge over the Potomac River, quietly waiting for the next passing train. As Q-341 approaches, its headlight casts an eeire glow from within the mouth of Magnolia Tunnel. It is along the former B&O's famed "Magnolia Cutoff" which eliminated several miles of a twisting route along the river bank in favor of two high bridges and four tunnels that cut straight across the Potomac bends. Today it is part of CSX's Cumberland Subdivision between Brunswick and Cumberland, MD, and is the site of massive tunnel reconstruction that will soon allow for double stack trains.
