With the completion this month of the trail over the "High Bridge," this new VA state park offers bikers a ride over the old N&W Pamplin City to Burkeville mainline. The centerpiece of the trail is the Appomatox River bridge near Farmville. The impressive structure was built in 1913 - 1914 to replace the previous 1850s bridge. It is 125 ft high and almost half a mile long. The supports were built wide enough to accommodate a second track that was never needed, but the state park thoughtfully added pull offs with seating along the way to capture views such as this one over the valley.
